Janne at The ButtUgly weblog is fed up with mobile tourist guides.
"It turns out that there's a large number of socially inept people, who apparently don't want to talk to any of the locals and simply ask, but they would rather live in their own small little world and have carefully managed and computer-recommended "foreign" experiences when going abroad. -- way too many of these people seem to be building mobile applications, and I just can't count the use cases I've been presented which start with "You're in a foreign city, and you would like to have dinner, and don't know where to go to..." - For chrissakes - ASK a local person." (My most hated mobile applications, pt I: YATG)
I do agree. But then there clearly are two schools of thought - some people would rather go hungry or wander lost for hours than talk to someone. It is a pain to travel with one, as I rather enjoy this kind of interactions and find it amusing to ask for directions & suggestions, regardless of if I actually choose to act upon them or not.
Here's a tip if you're around Copenhagen: At Stormgade and HC Andersen Boulevard there awaits a delightful dinner experiece, The Mongolian Barbecue (foto above). For anyone who likes their meat, a good choice.
